    ABSTRACT:

Pakistan's transportation infrastructure is mostly reliant on road transport, and it, like most other developing countries, is grappling with the problem of goods vehicle overloading. During the last twenty-five years, traffic composition, vehicle configuration, and loading regime have all altered dramatically, with longer and heavier trucks now plying on the highways and freeways. This study examines the vehicle class distribution, truck traffic within or above permissible load limits and EALF for the N-55 highway. The truck class most prevalent on the highway were identified to be 3-axle tandem truck (47.50%) and also it was observed that 94.1% of this vehicle class carried load above permissible limits. The EALF was calculated for the different axle configuration. A damaging value of 28.9684 for 2-Axle single truck, 66.1682 for 3-Axle Tandem truck, 82.024 for 3-Axle Single truck, 33.692 for 4-Axle Single Tandem truck, 56.186 for 5-Axle Single Tridem truck, 42.788 for 5-Axle Tandem Tandem truck and 194.68 for 6-Axle Tandem Tridem truck was observed. The EALF for this study was higher than the previous studies conducted.
